125 years weaving history, trust and future

The history of Candido Penalba S.L. is the story of a family business deeply connected to its land, its people and a way of working based on effort, quality and adaptability. In 2025, we celebrate 125 years of experience — an anniversary that invites us to look back with pride and towards the future with responsibility.

The origins of the Penalba family date back to the late 19th century, when Francisco Penalba Pastor ran a wax manufacturing business in Albaida (Valencia), an industry widely established in the town at the time. It was his son, Cándido Penalba Pastor, who in 1901 founded the textile company that gave rise to today’s Candido Penalba S.L., taking advantage of the strong textile tradition of the region and starting out as a small weaving company.

In 1923, the second generation, represented by Cándido Penalba Morencos, took over and consolidated the industrial project with a factory equipped with numerous looms in the Calvario area of Albaida. These facilities became the company’s production heart for decades and remained active until the late 20th century.

During the 1970s, the third generation joined the company with Ramón Penalba Peiró, in a period marked by specialization in home textiles. The company expanded its product range to include curtains, table linens, sheets and mattress protection products, laying the foundations for today’s specialization.

Over the past 25 years, Candido Penalba S.L. has focused firmly on sleep and bed protection, becoming a specialist in this segment. Our added value lies in national manufacturing, extensive experience and the ability to offer made-to-measure products adapted to each customer’s needs. Today, our facilities are located in the La Pedrera Industrial Estate in Albaida, from where we serve national and international markets.

International expansion in the 1980s marked a major milestone in our recent history. Today, nearly 75% of our turnover comes from exports, supplying leading distributors and home textile chains across Europe, both in domestic and hospitality sectors. This growth goes hand in hand with a strong commitment to quality and sustainability, supported by certifications such as OEKO-TEX®, GRS, OCS and, more recently, the EcoVadis Silver Medal in 2025.

In the late 1990s, the fourth generation joined the company, with Ignacio Penalba Torres as current Managing Director, leading a phase of modernization, progressive digitalisation and continuous adaptation. Along this journey, key figures and committed professionals have left an indelible mark on the company.

Our values — trust, honesty, sustainability, innovation, quality and continuous improvement — have guided us for 125 years. In a challenging global textile context, we continue to focus on proximity, flexibility, customisation, fast service and responsible, sustainable growth.

The recent incorporation of the fifth generation, with Javier Penalba Durà, reflects our commitment to building the future without losing our roots, keeping alive a company that has been weaving trust from Albaida for 125 years.
